Arrived Wellington on the magnificent Clipper ship "Oliver Lang" 2500 tons 18 September 1858 from London

The Black Ball Clipper Oliver Lang, Captain Mundle, arrived in port this morning from London, after a remarkably quick passage of 85 days from Plymouth. She brings 60 Cabin and about 240 steerage Passengers. One death and one birth occurred on board during the voyage. The passage has been very pleasant one and [all] the passengers speak in high terms of the kindness and attention of Captain Mundle, and also of the Surgeon Dr. Morton.

She left Gravesend on the 18th June, anchored in the Downs, and passed Plymouth on the 25th. When in Latitude 20s., Long. 24 W., a slight collision took place between the Oliver Lang, and the Hamburg barque Shon, from Santos, bound to Hamburg. The figure head and part of the Shon's jib-boom were left on the Oliver Lang's deck; and a few stancheous and covering board belonging to the latter were carried away. After the accident, Captain Mundle boarded the Shon, to see if she was making water; found she was all right, and forwarded letter home by her. The Oliver Lang did not sight land after leaving the English Channel until sighting D'Urville's Island yesterday morning. About 30 of the passengers are for Canterbury, eight for Nelson, and the reminder for this place.
