Site "worth preserving"

The Christchurch City Council would do its best to assist with the preservation of the buildings on the University of Canterbury's city site, the Mayor (Mr N. G. Pickering) said at the civic reception yesterday as part of the university centennial celebrations.

"I consider these buildings to be part of the Christchurch heritage, and important elements in the cultural and educational precincts between the River Avon and the Botanic Gardens." said Mr Pickering.

"It is an area well worth preserving in its present somewhat unique form, and the City Council is endeavouring to do this as far as is possible."
